Staring into the Abyss with Vi Khi Nao

Part love story, part existential tale of eternal return, Vi Khi Nao's narrative in "Return" shows us two souls' will to endure and survive. We were thrilled to share Vi's experimental piece in our first issue and hope this example of boundless fiction inspires future contributors. See what else Vi shared with us in our interview with her below.

First line of story: "The woman with a face like poetry had abandonment issues."

There’s “good” weird…and there’s also "not-so-good" weird. What’s “good” weird to you?

Good weird is being kind to people.

How would you describe a creative block? How do you get through one?

I don't have a creative block. Focusing on other things helps one get through a stagnation or two. The missing car keys don't always show their faces, but if one stops searching, it appears. That is how things go when it comes to attachment and letting go.

What is the most recent record/album you bought or listened to?

Silence is the type of music I prefer to listen with frequency.

How would you describe creative inspiration?

I watch tennis, play scrabble, and stare at the abyss.

Advice on creating that you’ve learned by trial and error?

Sometimes not trying something new is a type of healthy trial and error.

Is a hot dog a sandwich?

A hot dog is not a bánh mì. It doesn't have pickled carrots and daikon. For sure it doesn't have pâté.

What place does weirdness have in your life?

In my art (https://www.instagram.com/vikhinow/) and my writing (https://www.instagram.com/vikhinao/) and my intense addiction for Scrabble.

What question do you want to ask your fellow Weird Lit authors and artists?

What is the kindest thing someone has done for you?
